More to marketing. Welcome to more 2 marketing, the podcast on marketing, product and everything business. I’m your host, Susan, and today we’re actually going to be talking about the importance of emotional intelligence and business. We’re just going to go through some of the advantages, disadvantages and also some improvement strategies to help when. Bringing about emotional intelligence into your business. In today’s dynamic and interconnected business landscape, success extends beyond technical skills and expertise. It really does encompass a lot. Of those soft skills. Known as emotional intelligence or EI, emotional intelligence refers to the ability to recognise. Understand and manage one’s own emotions as well as the emotions of others effectively. So in the context of business, emotional intelligence plays a critical role. Really, really importantly, when it comes to things like leadership. Teamwork, customer relations, and pretty much the overall organisational performance. So let’s go into more about emotional intelligence itself when it comes to business and what involves. So First off, of course self awareness, recognising and understanding one’s emotions, strengths, weaknesses and the impact on others. Is the key to self awareness. Then you have self regulation, so that’s how you manage and control your impulses, your emotions and behaviours in various situations, especially when you’re under pressure. So you need to have that self awareness of what’s going on. But that self regulation about how to behave the right way for the right circumstances. Then you’ve also got social. Awareness, emphasising with empathising, with others understanding their emotions, their needs and also their perspectives and building that positive relationship. And that’s how you foster a great team and how you build out great stakeholder relationships. And that brings us to the last one, which is relationship management. Effectively communicating, influencing you use these skills of emotional intelligence for resolving conflicts and also collaborating with others to achieve those common goals. So emotional intelligence can help you with all these areas of your business, self awareness, self regulation, self aware, social awareness. And relationship management. No. What are the pros of emotional intelligence when it comes to business? Well, First off, you’re a more effective leader. Leaders with high emotional intelligence can inspire and motivate teams, foster collaboration and navigate challenges more effectively. They also have enhanced communication, improved ability to communicate, listen and understand others perspectives, leads to better relationships and when required, conflict resolution. And another pro of emotional intelligence and business is the increased productivity. Higher emotional intelligence has been correlated with better stress management, resilience and focus, resulting in increased productivity and job satisfaction. But there are also a couple of cons to consider as well for emotional intelligence and business and to. Be aware of. So the overemphasis on emotions. Excessive focus on emotions may lead to biases, irrational decision making, and also neglect of their critical factors for business decision making. And another large colon when it comes to emotional intelligence is misinterpretation. Misreading the cues, the emotions or miscommunicating the intent can lead to misunderstandings, conflicts, and being an ineffective manager and leader. Now, how can you improve your emotional intelligence and business? Well, I’ve got five ways here that you can look at. So one is enhancing that self awareness. So take time, reflect on emotions, triggers and behavioural patterns to understand strengths and areas to improve. Another practise self regulation. Have some time and actually develop some techniques. It could be things like deep breathing, taking a moment, mindfulness or time management to manage stress and impulses. Third one is foster empathy. So get those active listening skills out there. Observe those nonverbal cues and consider others perspectives to build empathy and understanding, because you can learn from everyone. 4th social improve your social skills, so enhance those communications, conflict resolution, negotiation skills. They might be through informal or formalised training feedback and just practise itself. Seek feedback so one of the best things that anyone can ever do is ask for feedback at all times to be open. So solicit feedback from peers, mentors, or coaches to gain insights for your blind spots, and then work on those areas of growth. Emotional intelligence is a vital component for navigating the complexity of modern business environments. By understanding the components and leveraging it to your benefit, addressing challenges individuals and also organisations. It can cultivate the culture of emotional intelligence that fosters success and resilience, so we can always work on emotional intelligence to improve ourselves, but always make sure not to go too far down the rabbit hole of emotions because you could be led to bias, irrational decision making, and also increase the misunderstanding that may happen. Being a leader and also being someone who brings in emotional intelligence is a positive to business. It really does overall help how an organisation performs.
