I’m your host, Susan, and today we’re going to be exploring the fascinating concept of transformational leadership. So what exactly is a transformational leader and what can we learn from them? So the concept. Of transformational leadership was introduced by a German called James V Downton, a prominent Scientologist, in 1973. Downton is credited with coining the term transformational leadership, laying the foundation for subsequent or scholarly discourse, and also a lot of research on leadership paradigm. Now his work marked a significant departure from traditional leadership theories of the time. By emphasising on the leaders ability to inspire and motivate followers towards achieving those common goals through visionary guidance and empowerment. Now, transformational leadership theory poses that leaders can transcend being a mere managerial role to becoming a catalyst for organisational change and individual development. James MacGregor burn further elaborated on this theory. He went on to define transformer transformational leadership as a reciprocal process where leaders and followers evaluate each other to higher levels of morale and ethical awareness. Learned contributions really did expand this theoretical framework and highlighted the transformative potential inherent to effective leadership practises. Now more and more studies have been done on this type of leadership overtime and another gentleman, Bernard Bass played a pivotal role in advancing the understanding of transformational leadership through his research and publications. Now bass defined and extended. The original concept by burns. And added in that there was more of an impact that could happen for organisational outcomes by having transformational leaderships within them. Now well.
