This list can be used to help prioritise customer needs and shift focus away from a mere feature-driven approach:

  1. Customer research: Conduct in-depth research to understand customer pain points, preferences, and desires.
  2. Persona development: Create customer personas to represent diverse segments and their distinct needs.
  3. User feedback loops: Establish consistent feedback mechanisms to gather insights and iterate based on user suggestions.
  4. Market validation: Validate ideas and features in the market before investing heavily.
  5. Prioritisation matrix: Use frameworks like the RICE method to prioritise features based on reach, impact, confidence, and effort.
  6. Cross-functional collaboration: Foster collaboration between teams (product, design, engineering, marketing) to align on customer-centric goals.
  7. Iterative development: Adopt an iterative approach, releasing MVPs and refining based on feedback.
  8. Focus on outcomes: Shift focus from features to outcomes; what problem does each feature solve for the user?
  9. Usability testing: Regularly test product usability to ensure it meets user needs.
  10. Continuous learning: Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement based on user insights.
