The ads are one of my favourite things this time of year (if my team doesn’t make it).
The cost of a Super Bowl ad in 2024 is approximately $10 million for 30 seconds. Do you think any of these will make that money back?
Below is a list of some of the ads this year – and my little commentary.
State Farm Insurance
Have Arnie doing what he does – action movies but…. He can never say neighbour correctly “Like a good neighbaa”
Has some great comedy to it – love the blaming of the sheep.
This is part one… looking forward to part 2.
BodyArmor
Ummm – this is a real sports ad but not sure if it will cut through.
Kawasaki
Mullets. Stone Cold. I love the thought behind this one. Can you see it?
BetMGM
Trying to bring a purpose back for Tom Brady. Vince does a good job to try and be funny but it is a little flat. I want to know if that baby sitter is the real baby sitter!
Doritos
Dina and Mita go cray cray on someone who got their bag of Doritos. Not sure if I want to try this – but definitely a different ad that I am use to seeing. Not sure it was worth the big budget.
Starry
This is a weird ad – not sure if it is meant to be watched drunk.
Sketchers
Nostalgia can work for you… or not. Bringing back Mr. T seems a bit of a stretch. Might work for some of the audience but fell flat for me.
Hellmanns Mayo
Mayo cat is famous – fun spin on how things can be made huge from nothing. Not sure if the mayo will sell more, but the cat is cute.
Coors Light
LL Cool J could not save this ad.
Uber Eats
Soo many actors. Interesting ad about forgetting. Has some funny moments – not sure what they are trying to tell us as the audience but I did enjoy it. Another cameo by Usher.
E*TRADE
Pickleball and babies…. No idea why.
Miller Lite
QR code ad for free beer – should be a winner
Booking.com
Tina is suppose to be funny – but this one didn’t hit the mark. Clever but lacking.
Drumstick
I don’t see the humour in this one…. Plane sickness and the solve is eating a drumstick?
Squarespace
Aliens saying hi – this ad made no sense for the product. Too much money to spend.
NERDS
Nostalgia is in…. and this time it is a play on the movie Flashdance. Cute but not sure how relevant as I haven’t seen any NERD ads lately. I love Addison but without a longer ad – not sure the purpose of her at the end???
Pringles
Chris Pratt becoming Mr P. Not much of a story – highly relying on the star factor. All the budget must have gone into paying Pratt.
Stoke Coffee and WREX
Love that Ryan Reynolds can call anyone and they will be there for him. This time it is Anthony Hopkins who comes to dragon-life with a good cold coffee.
T-Mobile
Following on from last year – the boys are back. Zach Braff and Donald Faison are here to save the world from slow internet. The person they are saving this year – Jason Momoa. Flashdance style again but soo worth a watch and laugh!
Mountain Dew
If you are a fan of Parks & Rec you will like – everyone else – blah.
Silk
Great to see Jeremy Renner – and a clever play on his injury and major film role. This should have some nice cut through from the fans.
Popeyes
Fast forward from 1972 to now, and Popeyes finally has chicken wings. How do you deal? Watch and see.
Oikos
Short but sweet – nostalgia with Martin Lawrence.
M&Ms
I look forward each year to see what M&Ms new adventure will be. This year I was disappointed. They have missed the mark with the ads on the almost champions of Superbowls past.
I would be interested if the ring was real or not – but I think this could have been more funny.
Nice heart warming ad – with a clear message.
Pluto TV
Love the imagination behind this ad. The potato cat is fabulous! New subscription service which might actually get cut through.
Michelob Ultra light beer
Sad ad – one where they try to tell a story that if you drink this beer you will be like Messi. Throw in random cameo by Ted Lasso and Dan Marino (who is in a few ads). Def didn’t work for me.
Dunkin’Donuts
OMG – Ben Affleck making fun of himself. Worth it! Apparently a part 2 at the game… guessing it will be the rap!
Part two
Frito-Lay
Bringing the taste of Superbowl to life. I like the simplicity of the ad – but would hate to be the cleaner!
Budweiser
Back to a classic old school ad with horses and a dog. As usual – bringing people together. Nice simple ad.
BMW
Quirky ad to show the there is only one true EV car – everyone else is imitating. In comes Walken with loads of people impersonating him to his face. Love the cameo by Usher.
Bud Light
Genie granting wishes – including a t-rex. Loads of cameos. I think the beer was lost a little in this ad.
DraftKings
Kevin Hart trying to be funny and not.
Dove
Kids stacking it – to build body confidence. Not sure if this misses or hits the mark. Dove usually do a lot of research beforehand. Lets hope.
BIC
I love the personalities in this ad – Willie, Martha and Snoop. Has some play on words but I think it might miss the laugh out loud moments it was going for.
Etsy
Historic ad – not sure if it is funny or insulting. Easily forgettable.
Oreo
Twist on it…. Nice and playful use of an Oreo.
Lindt
I am a huge chocolate lover – whimsical but doesn’t make me want to grab and eat them.
Volkswagen
Herbie … coming to USA. Nice way to bring family memories to VW purchases.
Cetaphil
Using the Taylor link to get daddies and daughters together for game day. Not sure how Tay Tay would feel about this and selling cream!
Kia
Trying to pull at heart strings – not sure why this is needed for a car ad.
e.l.f. Cosmetics
Boring and stupid ad – too slow. Doesn’t even have the appearance of a professional ad. Not interested in the part 2 they predict.
Part 2
Dawn
JJ Watt – prize and a a dishwasher. That poor duck.
