Super Bowl Special 2023. In this podcast Susan runs through some of the standout ads from this years Super Bowl.

Google Pixel – This ad is all about showing the latest features! Erasing and unblurring… and the ad magicaly shows you how easy it is. The ad made me want this phone! Clever use of real like issues like photo bombers being erased, and those photos you want to unblur. I think this one will be an audience winner for the features!

Rakuten – As a Clueless lover – I adored this ad. Another ad playing on nostalgia but as a bargain lover this really hit the mark for me.

Doritos – The triangle is the inspiration for greatness is soo corny. Harlow tries to make this funny but I think they have tried too hard. Not a fan.

Skechers – Snoop rollin around in different shoes made for all walks of life. Cameo by Martha Stewart. Not sure how relevant Snoop is atm but playing on nostalgia. Snoop doesn’t take himself seriously but easily forgettable.

T mobile – John Travolta singing along to Grease with the actors from Scrubs. Ummm talk about a mesh of eras. It is quirky. The visuals make it more appealing and again another ad playing on nostalgia. The actual visuals are great and fun to follow – just missing the car.

Squarespace – Adam Driver – a website that makes websites…. Over dramatized. Dune cross Matrix feel with the wrong actor. Umm – I still don’t get this one

UberOne – P Diddy is great as the creative director. Nostalgia is hot right now – this really brings it. Having old songs with their original artists change wording to work with what Uber brings. Milkshakes… I feel this might have benefited from more food related songs to really punch though. However very enjoyable.

Popcorners – Based on the characters Breaking Bad from “don’t eat your own supply” and “7 flavours” – this is fabulous. “Break into something good” – this is true to the show and will really appeal to the fans. This really hit the mark for me and was well executed. I also loved the teaser up until release.

General Motors – Will Ferrell – Evs. I love this. Playing on all the movies that might have this vehicle in it. I think this is really fun and on topic. Teamed with Netflix

Paramount – Stallone – play on Cliffhanger with some other key Paramount characters featured… Comical but I prefer the snow angel

Workday – “Rockstar” is the word – or more correctly, the word not to use. The celebrity use is clever with the play on rockstars and overuse for people who use Workday. Ozzie in the office is the standout for me. The inclusion of office settings and the celebrities standing firm makes this a fun and memorable ad.

Pepsi Zero Sugar – Steve Martin is used to try and show the difference between acting and actually feeling. This ad seems a little too clever but with Steve having a comeback I think this is more about the talent than the connection to audience. Not the best ad from Pepsi.

Another version was done by Ben Stiller – a little more interesting but with no product placement during the ad until the end, it doesn’t connect the pieces for me.
